In this story:

Everyone is still a freshman among the 20 first-year players on scholarship for this unbeaten and seventh-ranked University of Washington football team, but a handful of them appear ready to cross the point of no return.

Four games into a season of only Husky blowouts, linebacker Deven Bryant has drawn snaps in each outing so far and reached the maximum limit where one more outing will stamp him as a sophomore for 2024, putting him on the more streamlined four-year plan for college football eligibility.

While the 5-foot-11, 216-pound Bryant from Carson, California, remains in the linebacker rotation and should keep pulling game snaps, running back Tybo Rogers from Bakersfield, California, and center/offensive guard Landen Hatchett from Ferndale, Washington, are freshmen now entering the regular mix who have played in two games each and seem ready for a lot more.

Other than this precocious trio, everyone else appears headed to redshirt freshman status for next season. Or are they?

"How many times are we going to continue to be up 40, I don't know?" Husky co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell said of the lopsided outings that enable freshman to pull game experience.

A third of the way through the regular-season schedule, half of the 20 freshmen have been sent onto the field for at last one game, with seven of them pulling multiple outings.

With redshirt status at stake, the 10 young Huskies who haven't played yet still could make their college debuts in the latter half of the season.

"Yeah, we're always evaluating those guys," Morrell said. "I think those guys have to be opportune and prepared. There are guys we haven't put on the field yet, young guys that we could certainly put out there that we haven't yet."

The following is a breakdown of each Husky freshman and his playing status:

CLASS OF 2023

Deven Bryant, LB (4) — He's the only freshman to appear in every Husky game this season and has collected 6 tackles. He likely won't redshirt.

Leroy Bryant, CB (2) — This Bryant played against Michigan State and California, and has 3 tackles, including half a tackle for loss.

Elinneus Davis, DT (0) — The Minnesota defensive lineman hasn't appeared in a Husky game.

Soane Faasolo, OT (0) — The Bay Area product hasn't played in a UW game.

Diesel Gordon, S (0) — The Texas native hasn't played in a game yet after serving out a brief suspension in fall camp for breaking team rules.

Landen Hatchett, C-OG (2) — The younger Hatchett, a local player, has pulled snaps at both center and offensive guard, getting on the field against Michigan State and Cal. He likely won't redshirt.

Zach Henning, OG (1) — The 6-foot-5, 292-pound offensive lineman made his college debut against California.

Vincent Holmes, S (0) — The safety from Southern California hasn't appeared in a game yet.

Elishah Jackett, OT (1) — A lanky 6-foot-7, 259-pounder, Jackett played against Tulsa.

Anthony James, ER (0) — Putting size on his 6-foot-5, 272-pound frame, the prize of this UW recruiting class hasn't played, let alone suited up for any games yet.

Jacob Lane, ER (2) — The 6-foot-5, 250-pound Lane, a local recruit, played against Michigan State and Cal, and was ejected for targeting against the Bears. He has 2 tackles.

Taeshawn Lyons, WR (2) — Lyons played against Boise State and Michigan State and had a potential touchdown pass slip through his hands against the Spartans and get intercepted.

Austin Mack, QB (0) — Just 17, the 6-foot-6, 226-pound Mack is the Huskies' third quarterback and received a lot of fall camp reps, but he hasn't taken a game-day snap yet.

Caleb Presley, CB (0) A local product, the cornerback hasn't played on Saturday yet.

Curley Reed, CB (0) — The Louisiana product hasn't played in a UW game.

Keith Reynolds, WR (2) — The speedster drew game time against Michigan State and California.

Tybo Rogers, RB (2) — After serving out a fall-camp suspension, Rogers played against Michigan State and Cal. He's rushed 23 times for 87 yards and caught a pass for 47 yards. He likely won't redshirt.

Kahlee Tafai, OT (0) — The 6-foot-5, 327-pound offensive lineman hasn't played in a UW game yet.

Jordan Whitney, LB (0) — The Southern California linebacker hasn't appeared in a game.

Rashid Williams, WR (1) — Williams made his college debut against California, which seemed apropos since he's from Northern California, and caught 2 passes for 30 yards.
