Huskies Climb 2 Spots in the AP Poll

In this story:
A 37-point victory over Boise State was worth a two-rung climb in the Associated Press poll, with the University of Washington jumping to eighth from 10th entering the second week of play.
Eighth was where the Huskies finished in the final AP poll last season after beating Texas 27-20 in the Alamo Bowl and finishing 11-2.
This time, the UW (1-0), which was one of six ranked Pac-12 teams this week, moved past traditional powers LSU and Clemson, both of whom opened with lopsided losses their first time out.
"It's fun to see," UW wide receiver Rome Odunze said of the latest ranking on Tuesday after practice. "Being a top 10 team is an accomplishment not every team gets to see. [But} No. 8 is not where we want to end up."
With 1,107 points and no first-place votes, the Huskies trailed only Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Penn State in the poll, coming up 105 points behind the Nittany Lions.

Two-time defending champion Georgia maintained its No. 1 ranking by drawing 58 of the 63 first-place votes, with No. 4 Florida State receiving 3 first-place votes and runner-up Michigan 2.
Tennessee and Notre Dame rounded out the rest of the Top 10.
Texas, Utah, Oregon, LSU, Kansas State, Oregon State, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Mississippi filled out the second 10.
The final five slots went to Duke, Colorado, Texas A&M, Tulane and Clemson, with Deion Sanders taking his inherited 1-11 Buffaloes and turning them into a ranked team following one game.
Duke entered the rankings after upsetting Clemson 28-7 on Monday, a day after Florida State roughed up LSU 45-24.
"I watched those games, they were interesting," Odunze said. "That was a fun game for Duke. I visited Duke on an official visit, so I like them boys over there. They're very good people."
