With the University of Washington football team getting a lot of things sorted out over the past 24 hours — namely joining the Big Ten — a few loose ends still remain for the Huskies, who completed their third fall practice.

On Saturday, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb disclosed that freshman running back Tybo Rogers has been suspended for a team rules violation that wasn't specified.

The next move apparently is up to Rogers, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound player from Bakersfield, California, in getting back in good graces with the coaching staff. The running back took part in spring drills and was impressive, and was initially available when fall camp opened.

"We're working on him, seeing if he's willing to put the time in," Grubb said.

The further loss of Rogers would be a definitive blow to the UW depth chart because the Californian is the only scholarship signee at his position for Kalen DeBoer's staff in two recruiting classes.

"We need him — it's unfortunate he's not here," Grubb said.

Under perpetual gray skies and a sporadic drizzle, the Huskies also went through their morning practice without sophomore Sam Adams II, who Grubb said suffered "a loss in the family," plus Mississippi State transfer Dillon Johnson, with the latter putting on a uniform but not taking part in scrimmage plays.

Johnson was coming off knee surgery when he joined the Huskies for spring football and lasted just one practice. He's taken part in some drills but hasn't run the ball in fall camp yet.

"With Dillon, we're definitely being super, super cautious with him," Grubb said. "He's still recovering from that clean-up with his knee. It's taken awhile and part of the reason it's taken awhile is he came back too quickly. We want to make sure we don't make that mistake again."

In the absence of Rogers and Johnson, junior Cam Davis has been running as the No. 1 tailback, with sophomore Will Nixon backing him up and sixth-year senior Richard Newton pulling a lot of snaps, too.
