Instant Reaction: Oregon State Edition

On a night when Washington quarterback, Jacob Eason, wasn't his sharpest the defense certainly was...led by inside linebacker, Edifuan Ulofoshio. The defense held the most productive 3rd down offense be stymied by Ulofoshio and rush end, Joe Tryon. The defense didn't just come out and make a statement but deliver a message: "We're still here!"
What We Saw
- Edefuan Ulofoshio finished with 9 of Washington's 52 tackles
- Joe Tryon and Ryan Bowman continually move the pocket
- Salvon Ahmed shoulder the workload and put the ball in the endzone twice
- Oregon State only convert 1 of their 13 third down opportunities
- Peyton Henry miss two fieldgoals and Hunter Bryant come up short on a two-point conversion attempt
Key Stats
- Oregon State QB, Jake Luton completed 19 passes for 88 yards
- Jacob Eason competed just 50% of his passes for 0 TDs and 2 INTs
- Oregon State punted 10 times on the back of eight 3 and outs
- Washington's D gave up zero points and had only 4 plays on the UW side of the
- Ulofoshio had 17% of Washington's stops on the night
Turning Point
Eason's Pick 6 gave Oregon some life and cut the Washington lead in half 13-7. Enter Salvon Ahmed and his 1 play 60 yard drive that extended the Washington lead to 19-7. From that point the Husky D put Jake Luton and the Beavers' offense in a sleeper hold.
Key Matchup
Washington's DL v Oregon State's OL. This is rather obvious. Incredibly obvious. The Beavers ran 15 plays in the second half netting 3 yards. That simply doesn't happen without a dominating performance by the UW defensive front.
Where Do They Go From Here
Back to Seattle for a Bye Week and a Day. In two weeks they hit the road again as they fly off to Colorado. They leave Corvallis with more offensive questions than answers...the first being: What is the offensive identity? Against Utah Eason threw the ball 52 times and against the Beavers they ran the ball 48 times.
