Is Jaivion Green Ready For A Year Two Jump?

In this story:
Co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell is the first person who will tell you that the Washington coaching staff thrust cornerback Jaivion Green into action before he was ready to play. A relatively unknown recruit, Green committed to Kalen DeBoer's staff on January 31, 2022, and found himself in the middle of the action eight months later.
He played in nine of Washington's 13 games during his freshman season and had his ups and downs as any first-year player would. He was beaten deep for a couple of touchdowns, most notably in the matchup against Oregon, but also showed that he has a lot of tools to work with.

Green was honored with the Travis Spring Most Outstanding Freshman Award at Washington's postseason banquet and it was deserved. Even though the coaching staff admitted he wasn't ready, he stepped up when called upon and gave the Huskies an available outside corner, especially in press coverage.
So what's next for him?
"I think his development in this offseason has been fantastic," co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell said. "He's working hard, he really understands [the defense] mechanically, he's doing a lot better from a technique standpoint and I'm excited. I think he'll make a big, big jump for us."

Over the course of spring practice, Green has taken a lot of reps with the first-team defense, and could be competing for a starting corner spot. Oklahoma State transfer Jabbar Muhammad seems to have one side locked down, but the other is up for grabs.
Meesh Powell has taken a lot of reps in the Husky position, leaving Elijah Jackson and Green to compete at the other corner spot. Even if Jackson claims the starting spot, the 6-foot-2, 197-pound Green is going to be asked to play a lot, and could end up taking that starting spot by the end of the season.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
