Kirks, One-Time UW Commit, Gets Buckeyes Offer He Was Waiting On

In this story:
It seemed like a good idea while it lasted, but it probably was never going to happen, with or without the Kalen DeBoer coaching staff in place — Dominic "D.K." Kirks playing football for the University of Washington.
On Saturday, the 6-foot-4, 255-pound defensive lineman from Riverside High School in Painesville, Ohio, revealed to On3.com he has committed to Ohio State and presumably will sign with the Buckeyes at the second signing deadline in February.
Kirks committed to the Huskies after visiting Montlake in June, but he didn't sign with them in December, likely still waiting to see what the local Big Ten school would do.

Even though he was a 4-star player, Ohio State didn't offer Kirks right away, no doubt lumping him among a second tier of recruits.
He ended up treating the Huskies much like Ohio State dealt with him — as a back-up choice — which won't make any difference for anyone involved moving forward.
When he committed in the summer, Kirks picked the Huskies over Wisconsin, Pittsburgh and Kentucky. It wasn't until late in the process that Kirks took an unofficial visit to Ohio State.
Had he come to the UW, Kirks would have been the first Ohio-produced player on the roster since 2002, when the Huskies had wide receiver Eddie Jackson, a junior-college transfer who originally was from Columbus.
