Marcus Peters Signs One-Year Deal With the Las Vegas Raiders

In this story:
There are few cornerbacks who had their careers start off quite as well as Marcus Peters. The 2015 first-round pick out of the University of Washington won Defensive Rookie of the Year in his first campaign and was named to the Pro Bowl and All-Pro second team.
As a rookie, he also led the league in interceptions with eight and took two back for touchdowns. He followed up that campaign by recording six interceptions in 2016, which led to him being named to the NFL's All-Pro first team.
Then, following another strong season in Kansas City, the Chiefs traded him to the Los Angeles Rams for a second- and a fourth-round pick. He had another stellar year in 2019 during which he found himself getting traded again, from the Rams to the Baltimore Ravens.
Peters didn't miss a beat after his second change of scenery and was once again named to the All-Pro first team in 2019. He helped lead the Ravens to the AFC North title and, in turn, Baltimore rewarded him with a three-year, $42 million contract.

He missed the entire 2021 season with a knee injury and following the year the Ravens opted not to offer him another deal. With training camp on the horizon, Peters has found a new home with the Las Vegas Raiders.
While the value of the contract hasn't been announced, NFL Network's Ian Rappaport reported the two sides are in agreement on a one-year contract for the 2023 season. Peters has an opportunity to bounce back in a secondary that desperately needs help.
Early projections for the Raiders depth chart currently have three undrafted free agents listed as starters on the backend of the defense, so the Peters signing brings a quick infusion of talent. Las Vegas was among the bottom five in the NFL in passing yards allowed, giving up 4,129 yards through the air while pulling in only six interceptions, which was tied for the last in the league in 2022.
While the Oakland native won't have a chance to play in his hometown anymore, the Raiders could be the perfect team to help Peters return to his status as a lockdown cornerback.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
