Murao Has New College Team, Joins a Pair of Former Huskies

The once touted offensive guard from the Los Angeles area played in just four games at the UW.

Myles Murao hailed from the Mater Dei High School football powerhouse and was the California high school lineman of the year, a first-team MaxPreps All-America selection and considered by many the University of Washington's biggest 2020 recruiting prize.

Husky offensive-line coach Scott Huff liked to share how he and former head coach Jimmy Lake watched Murao handle the blinding spotlight of a showdown game between Mater Dei and St. John Bosco, usually Los Angeles' top two schoolboy teams.

"The moment was never too big for him," Huff said. "He just fit on the stage. He looked like a gladiator out there."

Unfortunately, Myles Murao was no Russell Crowe.

Without any fanfare, Murao quietly emptied out his locker, turned in his gear after Husky spring football concluded in April and left town in search of a new place to play.

The 6-foot-3, 320-pound sophomore offensive guard has turned up at San Diego State, making  him one of three former UW players on the roster of the Mountain West school along with tight end Mark Redman and edge rusher Cooper McDonald.

While Redman and McDonald pulled a lot of minutes for the Huskies, Murao did not. He appeared in just four games for the Huskies, all last season, drawing mop-up duty in lopsided victories over Kent State, Portland State, Stanford and Colorado.

Murao often was injured while in Montlake, sporting thick braces on each knee and missing several spring practices over the past couple of years. He never came close to challenging for regular playing time and found himself running with the third team when he finished up at the UW.

Chances are the injuries seriously negated Murao's ability on the college level or it's even possible he simply wasn't as good as advertised.
