When you look at Austin Mack, the first thing you notice is that he's every inch of the 6-foot-6 frame that he's listed at. A product of California's Folsom High School just like former Husky quarterback Jake Browning, Mack reclassified to join the class of 2023 not long after he committed to Washington.

After the success quarterback Michael Penix Jr. has had in coach Kalen DeBoer's system since transferring from Indiana, the Huskies have been considered a premier landing spot for talented transfers. And while the coaching staff will probably continue to try to add a transfer quarterback where it can, it also wants to make sure there's someone in the program who can take the reins.

Mack is the perfect person to do that, possessing all the traits that any talent evaluator seeks. And since he made the decision to reclassify, he now has the opportunity to learn for a year behind Penix and realize what it takes to run DeBoer's offense.

When you turn on the film, it's very easy to see why even after reclassifying 247 Sports ranked Mack as the 72nd overall player in the class of 2023.

He has a very strong, talented arm that can make all the throws necessary to succeed at the college level, with the velocity to fit the ball into tight spaces when needed. His frame, which will surely add some weight before he sees the field, also allows him to stand tall in the pocket and take hits while still delivering the ball downfield.

Under no circumstances should Mack be expected to see the field in 2023. His role should be strictly to learn and develop in the system, and that seems to be the main reason he opted to forgo his senior year of high school, with the expectation that he can compete for the starting quarterback job in 2024.
