New Dawg Report: Josh Cuevas

In this story:
After announcing his intentions to transfer from Cal Poly, Josh Cuevas became one of the hottest names at the tight end position in the transfer portal. The FCS Freshman All-American pulled in a host of offers, including scholarships from Michigan, Utah and Oklahoma State.
He committed to Washington after his official visit, and when 247 Sports added him to their database, he was considered a four-star prospect. After redshirting in 2021, he comes to Washington with three years of eligibility remaining.
Working on a preliminary watch of new Washington Huskies TE Josh Cuevas and have come away impressed. He is very much the move/flex TE type that should fit very well into DeBoer’s offense.

"He’s an intriguing athlete with gobs of potential," RPM Data scout Ben Glassmire said. "He’s going to need some time to grow and develop coming from a smaller school but with the way [head coach Kalen] DeBoer prefers to use TEs, he could be a dream fit in the offense."
Glassmire couldn't be more spot on. Cuevas, who totaled 678 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 2022, is a perfect fit for DeBoer and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb's passing game. With Devin Culp and Jack Westover both graduating following the 2023 season, the Cal Poly transfer might not see a lot of playing time right away, but could potentially start for the Huskies in 2024.

While there were not nearly as many multiple tight end sets compared to the John Donovan era, the Husky offense could have a lethal pair of tight ends in Cuevas and redshirt freshman Ryan Otton. Grubb had an excellent set of play designs to run from two tight-end formations, and the combination of Otton and Cuevas could be one of the best in the Pac-12.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
