New Dawg Report: Rashid Williams

What are the Huskies getting in the shifty receiver from California?

In this story:

During his first year with the Huskies, wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard did an excellent job on the recruiting trail. He pulled in three excellent high school prospects, including Pittsburg High School's Rashid Williams.

Williams was the first four-star recruit to commit to Washington in the class of 2023 following his official visit in early May of 2022. Williams should have one of the easiest transitions to the college level of any receiver in this class.

He can thank his five-star quarterback Jaden Rashada for that. The Arizona State commit put a lot of great throws on tape, and helped Williams develop other parts of his game. On tight window and contested throws, he displays great concentration and seems to always come down with the football.

Williams has also developed into a sure-handed receiver who's also an elite route-runner. He's very good at finding soft spots in opposing zones, and has the speed to split cornerbacks and safeties over the top from the slot.

Measuring in at 6'2 and 185 pounds, Williams has the frame to succeed on the outside, but could thrive in the slot at the college level too. With his size and route-running ability, Shephard and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb will want him to be able to line up at every position.

With some of the talent in front of him, Williams is going to have some time to sit and learn from everyone in front of him. While before the transfer portal opened up, it seemed like there might have been a path for him and fellow freshman Taeshaun Lyons to early playing time.

Now, while he might see some time in a few games just to put some snaps on tape, in all likelihood Williams will redshirt in 2023. As he continues to develop and put on weight, he'll be a candidate to be a major contributor in 2024.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
