Newly Signed Husky Safety Elects to Enter Transfer Portal

In this story:
A month ago, the University of Washington football team had three new safeties.
Today, it's just one.
Peyton Waters, a 6-foot-1, 171-pound defensive back from Birmingham High School in Van Nuys, California, has elected to enter the transfer portal after going through three weeks of school and a coaching change.
A 4-star recruit, Waters will shop himself around just days after fellow incoming UW safety Joshua Lair from Missouri City, Texas, entered the portal, as well. Only Paul Mencke Jr. from Cibolo, Texas remains from this trio.
“I just put my name in the transfer portal to see what all my options will be,” Waters told 247sports.
Waters enrolled early and traveled with the Huskies to Houston for the College Football Playoff championship game and wore No. 28 as he wandered the sideline.

The UW has had four high school recruits enter the portal in Arizona edge rusher Noah Carter, defensive tackle Keona Wilhite, Lair and Waters, and fifth player, defensive tackle D.K. Kirks, sign with Ohio State after committing to the Huskies.
While UW envisioned him as a defensive leader, Waters was a two-way stalwart for Birmingham High. Double up as a wide receiver, he caught 79 passes for 1,248 yards and 17 touchdowns as a senior.
"He's scoring a lot of touchdowns for his football team," DeBoer said when announcing Waters' signing.
Waters considered offers from USC, UCLA, Stanford, Utah and others before choosing the Huskies.
