As spring practice begins to wind down for the Huskies, the team is really starting to take shape. Even though the media didn't get a chance to view the entire practice on Wednesday, it was highlighted by most of the usual suspects.

The first-team defense got the better of the offense in the only open team portion of the day, with Bralen Trice and Zion Tupuola-Fetui both recording a pressure on quarterback Michael Penix Jr.

However, the play of the day once again went to junior receiver Rome Odunze, whom wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard said after practice intends to win the Biletnikoff Award in 2023.

Odunze, who had to stop about 40 yards downfield on a slightly underthrown ball from second-string quarterback Dylan Morris, made a play reminiscent of his juggling touchdown against the Arizona Wildcats. While falling to the ground, and bobbling the ball three times, Odunze pulled in a spectacular catch with a defender pulling him down.

Notes and observations

Edge rusher Maurice Heims, who has been eased back since suffering a scary neck injury on the first day of practice, looks to be fully healthy now. Heims took snaps during the team period of Wednesday's practice with the second-string defense.

Tight end Devin Culp described the offense as "leaps and bounds" ahead of where they were in terms of understanding the playbook at this point in 2022.

Left tackle Troy Fautanu talked about who he thinks is next in line for Washington's offensive line, and he called redshirt freshman center Parker Brailsford, someone who's going to be "very special." He also highlighted redshirt sophomore tackle Robert Wyrsch and true freshman center Landen Hatchett in the same discussion.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
