The Huskies haven't spent a lot of time in the cold so far this spring. With a lot of rain impacting early practices, head coach Kalen DeBoer has opted to move the majority of the workouts into Dempsey Indoor Center.

However, with no rain in the forecast on Wednesday, practice took place inside Husky Stadium where it was a crisp 40 degrees to start. The defense took advantage of that during the only open team portion of the day, recording a pair of sacks.

Bralen Trice got home against Troy Fautanu, touching down Michael Penix Jr. on the first team's only drive that the media was able to view. Against the second-team offensive line, the defense brought a lot of pressure, which was highlighted by a sack by twin defensive tackles Armon and Jayvon Parker.

Notes and observations

Leading off with some positive news on the injury front, edge rusher Maurice Heims was back in full pads today. While he had been participating in practices over the past week, this was the first time he put pads on with the rest of the team.

Redshirt freshman Parker Brailsford seems to be cementing himself as the second-team center. After practice, offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said, "I think last year he was just kind of getting his feet wet and getting the lay of the land, and now this year he looks like a guy that honestly could play if we needed him to step in."

Running back Daniyel Ngata talked about the influence his brother, former Washington linebacker Ariel Ngata had on him when he decided to choose Washington. "Ariel loved it here... he still loves it now, to this day. He gave me a lot of insight on what it was like to be here, that it was all great vibes and that players are going to learn something new every day."

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
