Sir Mells, the former University of Washington football commit with the unforgettable name, will transfer from Oregon to Utah State, he disclosed on social media over the weekend.

If you recall, the 6-foot-3, 315-pound Mells from Henderson, Nevada, originally was coming to the UW as part of a package deal involving him and a pair of Liberty High School teammates in edge rusher Anthony Jones and wide receiver Germie Bernard.

However, Mells and Jones each signed with Oregon, spent last season there as freshmen and then left, with the 6-foot-5, 240-pound Jones recently transferring to Indiana.

Bernard, of course, ended up at Washington, but not before he signed with the Huskies, asked for his release, spent his freshman season at Michigan State and retraced his steps to Montlake

Whew.

The colorful Mells played in just one game for Oregon, deflecting a pass against Eastern Washington in the season opener, and was redshirted.

He now joins a Utah State defense headed up by MJ Tafisi, the former University of Washington linebacker and a Utah native

The 6-foot, 235-pound Tafisi quit immediately following the 2021 Oregon game, one in which he didn't play for some unknown reason and an outing that led to Jimmy Lake getting suspended and then fired for shoving linebacker Ruperake Fuavai during the game.

Tafisi, who has a season of eligibility remaining, was among the Utah State leading tacklers last fall through eight games when he was lost for the rest of the season with an unspecified injury.

Finishing with 69 tackles, Tafisi was named All-Mountain West honorable mention at the end of the season.
