Oregon TE Obtains Arizona Release, Projected to be UW-Bound

In this story:
It's almost as if Jedd Fisch's coaching staff wants to go deep every chance it can get, with recruiting no exception, especially at a position of great need.
Once Arizona tight-end signee Charlie Crowell obtained his scholarship release, Fisch's University of Washington coaches jumped in with an immediate offer. A response should be forthcoming fairly soon.
While the 6-foot-5, 240-pound prospect from Summit High School in Bend, Oregon, says he is weighing his options, recruiting director Andrew Nemec from SBLive.com in the Sports Illustrated network recently spoke to him and predicts a Husky commitment should be in the offing.
"I’m very very excited for my opportunity at Washington, mainly because I love their coaching staff," Crowell told Nemec. "They’re the coaching staff that recruited me at Arizona. I built lots of super strong relationships with coaches, and even some of the players they brought over, so that being a place that I have lots of relationships at is super gravitating."

Crowell signed with Arizona after drawing recruiting attention from California, Washington State, Air Force and even the UW's previous Kalen DeBoer coaching staff.
He comes off a senior season in which he caught 32 passes for 507 yards and 6 touchdowns for a 7-5 Summit High team and was named first-team all-conference at his position.
Crowell has a readymade frame in some ways larger than the UW's departing senior tight ends in 6-foot-4, 237-pound Devin Culp and 6-foot-3, 248-pound Jack Westover, both now preparing for the NFL Scouting Combine next week in Indianapolis.
The Huskies currently have just three tight ends on scholarship in 6-foot-4, 255-pound senior Quentin Moore, 6-foot-6, 243-pound sophomore Ryan Otton and newly signed freshman in 6-foot-3, 230-pound Decker DeGraaf, which lends to the UW coming up with another roster add.
"I’ve taken a few visits to Washington before I committed to Arizona and I really enjoyed my time there," Crowell told Nemec. "I thought the area was awesome, super cool that it’s right in Seattle and on Montlake. I enjoyed the campus, and when it comes to football, I loved the facilities and their giant stadium. It’s pretty close to home for me."
