Report Says Vanderbilt Linebacker Will Join Huskies

In this story:

Linebacker Ethan Barr entered the transfer portal probably looking to win a lot more football games and maybe see what a bowl game looks like before his college career is complete.

If online reports are true, the former Vanderbilt defender will do it in Montlake, with 247sports offering that Barr is expected to join the University of Washington football team. No other confirmation has emerged.

This news came on Friday about the same time that former Mississippi State quarterback Will Rogers committed to the Huskies, according to ESPN, potentially giving them a pair of experienced SEC players at key positions for 2024.

Rogers most likely will step in for the outgoing Michael Penix Jr. and Barr would be in the mix to replace Edefuan Ulofoshio.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound Barr is from Flower Mound, Texas, and was a two-year team captain and starter in 39 of 45 games over four seasons for the Commodores, finishing with 219 tackles. He also had 7 tackles for loss, a sack, a forced fumble and 3 interceptions, with all of the pass thefts coming in 2021.

He did everything at the Nashville school expect win with any regularity — Vandy was 9-36 in his time there without appearing in a bowl game.

If he's committed to coming to Seattle to finish up, the Huskies didn't have to go far to check out Barr's credentials.

UW defensive-line coach Inoke Breckterfield coached the same position group at Vanderbilt for one season, in 2021 when Barr was a sophomore starter on the defense playing behind his guys.
