Sean McGrew has been patiently waiting for his turn. That’s not always easy to do, especially when you’re a talented division 1 tailback at the University of Washington. Normally if you’re good enough to land a scholarship to play at a power 5 program like Washington, you are good enough to play at almost any school in the country.

Being in this position has been a blessing and a curse for McGrew. The curse is that he landed on the UW’s roster right in the middle of perhaps the greatest career that a Husky RB has ever had!  Myles Gaskin, who was on his way to smashing just about every major rushing record in the history of the program, was only a sophomore when Sean arrived on campus in 2016. With Gaskin as the lead horse in a stable of talented backs, McGrew would have limited opportunities to showcase his abilities.

The blessing for the speedster from Torrance, CA, is that he was able to spend 2 years watching and learning from one of the best backs to ever wear the purple and gold. And it is definitely showing in his play this season. As part of the 3 headed monster of tailbacks that UW has utilized this season (Salvon Ahmed, Richard Newton and Sean McGrew), McGrew has been brilliant so far in this short 2019 season. He rushed for 63 yards on 8 carries vs Hawaii and 110 yards on 18 carries vs BYU. Huskies running back coach Keith Bhonapha likes the way that McGrew is progressing in his role as a player for the Dawgs. Hear what he had to say about McGrew, his role on this team, and what his thoughts are on USC  in the video below.
