Sidney Jones Signs With The Cincinnati Bengals

In this story:
Former Washington cornerback Sidney Jones hasn't had quite the career that most expected he would after he was taken in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft. After tearing his Achilles tendon at his pro day, Jones fell to the second round where he was taken 43rd overall by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Over his five years in the NFL, Jones has spent time with the Eagles, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas Raiders. Now, he'll be joining his fifth team, after he signed a one-year deal with the Cincinnati Bengals.

While the 26-year-old corner has been productive during his time on the field, his biggest issue over the course of his career has been staying healthy. Jones has never played in an entire NFL season, the closest he came was in 2021, when he played in 16 games in the first year of the league's 17-game schedule.
If Jones can return to his 2021 form, where he tied for Seattle's team lead in passes defensed with 10, the Bengals are going to have a serviceable starting cornerback on their hands at the very least.

After losing All-Pro safety Jessie Bates to the Atlanta Falcons in free agency, the Bengals have had to completely redo their secondary in order to continue to compete in the AFC. They've made the last two AFC Championship games, winning one of them, but their defense has been their downfall.
Cincinnati's defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has proven to be one of the best in the NFL over the last few seasons and Jones has an opportunity to thrive in his system. Anarumo came up as a defensive-backs coach, and could be the right person to help revive Jones' career.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
