Takeaways from Washington's Fifth Fall Practice

In this story:
Tuesday was the definition of feast or famine for the Washington Huskies on both sides of the ball, as Dylan Morris once again led the first-team offense while Michael Penix Jr. threw off to the side. Coach Kalen DeBoer briefly addressed the media after practice, saying there's no cause for concern.
In his stead, Morris did a decent job commanding the offense. On the first drive of the day, he threw a 55-yard touchdown pass to Rome Odunze, who got behind the defense and outran three defenders. That ignited a scoring barrage that saw the Washington offense score seven touchdowns during team periods.

The offense worked on a lot of shorter field situations on Tuesday, which led to the scoring barrage, but the defense also came away with multiple wins on the day. Elijah Jackson made two interceptions on the day, grabbing the first during one-on-one drills, and the second off a tipped Morris pass.
While Jackson topped the stat sheet, Davon Banks had the best day of any defensive back. He picked off Austin Mack early in practice and played physical, lockdown coverage all morning, and looks to be pushing for a spot in the cornerback rotation.
It was also a good outing for edge rusher Sekai Asoau-Afoa, who recorded a sack early on in practice and forced a fumble on a handoff later on, knocking the ball out of Austin Mack's hands. Mack was under a lot of pressure once again, especially when edge rusher Lance Holtzclaw also forced his way into the backfield and recorded a sack.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
