UW Offers Former Oregon CB Darren Barkins in Transfer Portal

In this story:
Darren Barkins has a last name that seems far more suitable for Montlake than Eugene. He also plays a position for which the University of Washington football team can't seem to get enough candidates.
On Tuesday, the former Oregon cornerback revealed on social media that he's received a scholarship offer from Kalen DeBoer's Husky staff six days after entering the transfer portal. It appears to be his only offer so far.
The 6-foot, 170-pound redshirt freshman from San Diego's Mater Dei Catholic originally was recruited by the UW and Jimmy Lake's staff, which provided him with one of his 17 offers back then.
Barkins recently chose to leave the Ducks a few days before their spring game after appearing in 12 games over his two seasons. He did not play against Washington in either game during his Oregon stay.

The attraction to this cornerback is his elite speed. When he was a high school senior, Barkins ran a 4.26-second 40-yard dash, according to his California training group, Team Makasi.
He previously chose the Ducks over the UW, Oklahoma, Utah, Arizona, California, Oregon State, Washington State, UCLA and Louisville.

A 3-star recruit, Barkins apparently got impatient with his progress at Oregon, which played him in the maximum four games to preserve his redshirt status in 2021. He was sent on to the field in 8 of 13 games this past season.
He logged three tackles and defended one pass for a 10-3 Ducks team, which led by Dan Lanning, who wasn't the coach who recruited Barkins to Eugene. He has three seasons of eligibility remaining.
