In this story:

There are few things in football that can wreck a game quite like a good four-man pass rush. While the Huskies have a pair of talented edge rushers on the roster, highlighted by preseason All-America candidate Bralen Trice, the interior of the defensive line needs to generate more pressure on the quarterback.

Not counting Voi Tunuufi, who now plays on the edge, Washington's defensive tackles recorded just two and a half sacks in 2022. Yet the middle of the Husky defense brings a lot to be enthused about.

Faatui Tuitele has shown flashes of advancing as a pass rusher during fall camp and the junior, a former top 50 overall recruit, said he's feeling the healthiest he's been coming into the year. The return of senior Tuli Letuligasenoa can't be understated; he's adept at taking on double teams and creating opportunities for his teammates.

Last season also saw the emergence of Jayvon Parker, who played in seven games as a true freshman and did more than hold his own. Fans should get a better look in 2023 at Parker, who looks ready to assume a bigger role, as well as a first glimpse at his twin brother Armon, who was more heralded as a recruit.

Speaking of heralded recruits, former top 100 prospect Jacob Bandes has a spot in the rotation up front and looks like he has leaned out coming into fall camp. If he can figure out a way to generate pressure in spurts, that could go a long way towards helping the Husky pass rush.

Fox Sports' Joel Klatt ranked the Huskies at No. 6 in his preseason poll and said they have a great chance to win the Pac-12. If Washington's defense can continue to get after the quarterback like it did in 2022, when it recorded 37 sacks while recording more pressure from the interior, the Husky defense could help the team live up to the hype.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
