What Will Be the Position Makeup for Washington's Class of 2024?

In this story:
Even if you recruit at the level of Georgia or Alabama, every single recruiting class has needs that a coaching staff has to fill. Washington has plenty of needs that it will address and, with what is expected to be a somewhat smaller class, the coaching staff seems to be focusing the most at every level of the defense.
The staff still wants to emphasize the offense and will probably take three or four offensive linemen, three receivers, a tight end, a running back (or two, depending on who's willing to commit) and a quarterback. It has already found three of those prospects in four-star lineman Paki Finau, three-star quarterback EJ Caminong, and three-star receiver Landon Bell.
The low end of estimations on the offensive side is nine prospects. Since the class will most likely hold somewhere between 17-20 recruits, it could hold a few more defensive prospects.

Starting along the defensive line, the Huskies look like they want to take three or four trench players. Highlighted by four-star defensive lineman Jericho Johnson, the coaching staff has set up three official visits at the position so far and is in the process of attempting to finalize one or two more.
At linebacker, it sounds like the coaching staff is hoping to take three scholarship players at the position and has already set up visits with three of its top prospects, three-stars Khmori House and Kingston Lopa, as well as four-star Kamar Mothudi. It also seems to be in the process of continuing to establish its footprint in the Midwest and looks to be setting up another visit with three-star Michael Boganowski from Junction City, Kansas.
Finally in the secondary, the staff seems to be prioritizing safety over cornerback. After taking three corners and two safeties in 2023, the trends seem to have reversed this time around. The staff has found itself in the running for some high-level prospects, including four-stars Peyton Waters and Paul Mencke, and three-star Joshua Lair.
While there won't be five scholarship secondary players again, if the staff takes four defensive linemen along with two linebackers and four in the secondary, that adds up to 19 recruits in the class of 2024. That also leaves wiggle room scholarship-wise in case a few unexpected names leave early for the NFL Draft or decide to enter the transfer portal.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
