Mississippi State transfer Will Rogers stands as the short-term solution for the University of Washington quarterback position, while promising freshman Austin Mack and the soon-to-sign Dermaricus Davis are the players of the future for the Huskies, and junior Dylan Morris has opted for the transfer portal.

Which leaves Will Haskell, the San Diego State transfer who joined the UW this past year, still looking for a place to land.

Early in the week, as word circulated that Rogers was coming to the UW for a visit and likely for a much longer stay, the tall and lean Haskell was one of the first to head for the locker room in a sprint once practice ended.

An obvious question is where does the 6-foot-4, 200-pound signal-caller fit in going forward once the competition to replace Heisman Trophy runner-up Michael Penix Jr. begins?

"We're working on that," offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb said of Haskell. "We're going to see. We need some time to evaluate him as a thrower, what his arm talent is and things like that."

The son of a former Washington State running back, Haskell played two seasons in a limited role for San Diego State, appearing in six games and throwing 14 passes, before entering the portal.

He joined the Husky football team for fall practice and ran the scout team throughout the season against the No. 1 defense, and was rewarded with scout-team player of the year honors from the coaching staff.

Haskell finds himself still having to prove himself, especially at the UW, where the competition levels continue to increase.

"I think he has a lot of tools," Grubb said. "We'll find a way to utilize him."
