4-Star Safety From Texas Takes His Talents to Washington

Kalen DeBoer's coaching staff won a major recruiting battle in the Lone Star state.

The Washington Huskies are picking up momentum on and off the field. On the field, they're 4-0 and ranked as the No. 7 team in the country, according to the Associated Press.

Off the field, the team on Monday added a commitment for the 2024 class from safety Joshua Lair, a 4-star prospect from Fort Bend Marshall High School in Missouri City, Texas.

Lair is ranked as the nation's 430th overall prospect by the 247 Sports Composite and adds a big boost to Washington's class, which moved up to 46th in the country, according to the recruiting website following his commitment.

He chose the Huskies over Baylor and Texas, but held 28 scholarship offers from around the country. Auburn, Florida, LSU, Oregon and Tennessee were among the other schools to extend an offer to Lair.

On film, he looks like he could be an immediate difference-maker. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, Lair possesses elite speed and looks like an extra physical player when he's tracking down ball carriers. He is an impressive tackler and rarely misses when wrapping up his opponents.

He also possesses above-average man coverage skills for a safety, which could lead to co-defensive coordinator Chuck Morrell utilizing him at the Husky position. With his size, physicality and football IQ, Lair is a promising prospect.

Joining 4-star safety Peyton Waters and 3-star cornerback Elias Johnson, Lair becomes the third and most likely final defensive back to join Washington's recruiting class.

After 3-star offensive lineman Davit Boyajyan joined the class on Sunday night, the Huskies are running out of spots quickly. The only sure opening remaining is for 4-star defensive tackle Jericho Johnson, who recently took an unofficial visit to Eugene to watch Oregon's matchup with Colorado.
