Husky WR Signee Robinson Was Most Impressive When He Committed

Kalen DeBoer shared how the Southern California recruit had a well-written speech prepared to tell everyone he was coming to the UW.

Not only did wide receiver Jason Robinson Jr. kick off a big recruiting weekend for Kalen DeBoer's coaching staff last summer — when he publicly announced his commitment to the University of Washington — he also became a leader in the Huskies' Class of 2024.

Robinson revealed his commitment at a dinner with the coaching staff during his official visit, which left an indelible impression on his future head coach.

"One of the things that was really cool that I remember was when he made his announcement at one of our dinners here on campus," DeBoer said. "He was one of the first commits over that weekend and made it publicly. He had a well-written speech, he's just so impressive that way as a person, and it has been really cool to get to know him and his family."

After the 3-star receiver from San Juan Hills High School in Southern California signed his national letter of intent on Wednesday, DeBoer was able to talk about Robinson and share the moment with the media for the first time.

Speaking to a room full of people, Robinson offered the following message.

"I don't really do this public speaking, but I have something I'd like to say," he told his audience. "I am very grateful for the opportunity to be considered someone who can be a part of this college football fraternity. More importantly, I am grateful to be able to be a part of the family and brotherhood that has been built here and instilled in not only this program but the people of this city."

The Huskies are getting an accomplished route runner in Robinson, who under wide-receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard's guidance, has the potential to be a big contributor to Washington's passing attack down the line.

With the expectation that all three of Washington's starting receivers will depart at the end of the season for the NFL draft, the Huskies also will be looking for vocal leaders to step up in the room.

Robinson's mental makeup, maturity and love for the game could help him become a leader for the Huskies early in his career. It doesn't hurt that he already has the approval of his head coach.
