Wednesday afternoon, West Virginia centerfielder Braden Barry became the first Mountaineer to earn the Big 12 Conference's Baseball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  

Barry had a 3.73 GPA in finance while hitting .290 with eight home runs, 19 doubles, 44 RBIs and 24 stolen bases, earning an All-Big 12 Second Team selection. 

The Louisville native was also named a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection. Additionally, he was named to the Dean’s List, Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll, and the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll during his time with the Mountaineers.

Barry was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the eighth round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Through 10 games in the minor leagues this summer, he has hit .259 with two home runs, five RBIs, and a .955 OPS, playing for the Blue Jays Rookie League team as well as the Single-A Dunedin Blue Jays.
