No. 19 West Virgina Drops Game 2 and Series to Kansas

Morgantown, WV - The West Virginia Mountaineers (22-9, 2-3) lost second their second consecutive game to the Kansas Jayhawks (15-14, 5-3) with a 10-7 decision Saturday evening and dropped their first series since the opening weekend at Georgia Southern.
West Virginia put the game's first run on the board in the bottom of the first inning when J.J. Wetherholt reached first with a drive centerfield, then Dayne Leonard doubled down the left field line before Caleb McNeely scored Wetherholt on a deep sacrifice fly to centerfield.
The Mountaineers added a pair of runs in the second after Landon Wallace doubled to left centerfield before Logan Sauve went opposite field for a two-home run to take a 3-0 lead.
Janson Reeder put the Jayhawks on the board with a solo home run in the fourth.
In the fifth, West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel began the inning with a hit batsman, then Jackson Cobb drove the ball into the gap of right centerfield for an RBI triple, Traxel hit another Jayhawk batter to put runners at the corners. Jackson Kline grounded to second baseman J.J Wetherholt but he missed the tag on Michael Brooks and the throw was late to first as Cobb crossed home plate before Cole Elvis hit a three-run bomb and giving Kansas a 6-3 lead.
West Virginia got within a run in the sixth after Kansas starting pitcher Sam Ireland loaded the bases, then he hit WVU batter Logan Suave to bring in a run and Tevin Tucker hit an RBI sacrifice fly.
Aidan Major came in relief for Traxel in the sixth and was looking to complete two scoreless innings before Elvis worked a two-out walk and Reeder hit a high blooper over third base for an RBI double.
West Virginia picked up a run in the bottom half of the frame, but the Jayhawks produced three runs in the eighth, started off with a leadoff home run and an error at first scored the third run of the inning as Kansas took down No. 19 West Virginia 10-7.
