Oklahoma Evens Series with West Virginia

Morgantown, WV - The West Virginia Mountaineers (35-12, 12-5) had their 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday evening, following a 6-3 decision to the Oklahoma Sooners (26-21, 10-10).
It only took three pitches for the Sooners to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Anthony line the 0-1 pitched for a single into centerfield, then Bryce Madron blasted his first pitch over the WVU bullpen.
The Mountaineers responded in the bottom of the inning when Tevin Tucker worked a leadoff walk, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a deep sacrifice fly from J.J. Wetherholt and Landon Wallace scored Tucker with a line drive base hit to left field to cut the Sooners advantage in half, 2-1.
Dakota Harris put two more runs on the board with a two-run home run in the sixth.
West Virginia responded in the bottom half of the frame, starting with a leadoff double from J.J. Wetherholt, then Landon Wallace hit a high fly ball into shallow right field and a miscommunication on the play led to the ball dropping in play and placed runners at the corners. Next, Braden Barry hit a deep drive to centerfield for a sacrifice RBI and Dayne Leonard followed with an RBI single through the left side to get WVU within a run, 4-3.
West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel gave up a walk to begin the eighth, ending his afternoon. He finished the afternoon allowing five runs on seven hits.
WVU head coach Randy Mazey called in closer Carlson Reed. However, the Sooners continued their momentum, with Kendall picking up an RBI single, and with two outs, Sebastian Orduno hit a sharp ground ball down the first base line, and a diving Grant Hussey stopped the ball but not before a run could cross home, but Easton Carmichael was looking to score and was gunned down at the plate to end the inning. Nonetheless, Oklahoma extended its lead 6-3.
West Virginia put a runner aboard in the eighth and the ninth but could not bring any runner across as Oklahoma defeated the Mountaineers by a final score of 6-3.
West Virginia and Oklahoma will square off in the series finale Sunday with the first scheduled for 11:00 a.m. EST.
