West Virginia University baseball head coach Randy Mazey was named Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year on Tuesday after leading the program to its first conference championship since 1996 after the Mountaineers notched a program-best 15-9 league record. The honor marks the second of Mazey's career.

In his 11th season at the helm, Mazey has guided the Mountaineers to their best offensive output since joining the Big 12 Conference in 2012 and are one home run shy of tying the program record with 75 home runs on the year.

West Virginia swept consecutive conference foes first the first time in program history after handling TCU at home before traveling to Waco and taking three-games from Baylor as part of a 10-game winning streak.

The Mountaineers were 16-3 during a 19-game stretch on the backend of the schedule to vault up into the top 10 in the national rankings for the first time in program history.

Mazey and the Mountaineers are back in action in the opening round of the Big 12 Conference Championship Wednesday night with the first pitch scheduled for approximately 8:30 p.m. EST.
