West Virginia Clinches Series at Arizona

Tuscon, AZ - The West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel picked up his first win of the season following a one-run nine inning outing as the Mountaineers (4-2) dispatched the Arizona Wildcats (3-3) 5-1 Saturday evening.
West Virginia jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning after Ellis Garcia received a four-pitch leadoff walk and Grant Hussey followed with an RBI double for the game's first run. Then, with two outs, Tevin Tucker singled up the middle to score Hussey from third.
A sacrifice fly from Mason White put the Wildcats on the board in the bottom of the inning.
West Virginia added two runs in the fifth when, with one out, Braden Barry was hit by the pitch on his first pitch of the inning before J.J. Wetherholt and Dayne Leonard collected RBI doubles as the Mountaineers extended their lead 4-1.
Wetherholt collected his fourth RBI of the season with a single into right centerfield to provide a little cushion heading into the final two frames of the evening.
West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel allowed five hits on the afternoon, all coming in the first four innings before recording 13 consecutive outs. The Cal State Northridge transfer finished the game and ended the day with six strikeouts as the Mountaineers took the series with a 5-1 decision in game two.
The Mountaineers will look for the series sweep in game three Sunday at 3:00 p.m. EST and streaming on Pac 12 Insider.
