West Virginia Clinches Series over UNC Greensboro

Greensboro, NC - After West Virginia pounded UNC Greensboro 28-2 in game one of a doubleheader, the Mountaineers (14-4) won game two 4-1 and clinched the series over the Spartans (10-9).
West Virginia grabbed the early 2-0 lead after Kevin Dowdell worked a one-out walk and before Grant Hussy hit a two-out home run, his second of the day.
An error in the top of the fifth inning gave West Virginia's Braden Barry first base, and he proceeded to steal second. Then, J.J. Wetherhold ripped a single through the right side of the infield for a 3-0 Mountaineer lead.
Caleb Cozart put UNC Greensboro on the board in the sixth with a solo home run.
The Mountaineers added an insurance run in the seventh when Skylar King delivered a leadoff single, advanced to second on a balk, Tevin Tucker moved him to third on a sacrifice bunt and Braden Barry brought King home with a deep fly ball to centerfield as West Virginia claimed an 4-1 advantage.
West Virginia starting pitcher Blaine Traxel collected his fourth win of the season in his third complete game of the season and finished the game with six strikeouts.
The Mountaineers will look to sweep the Spartans in game three with the first pitch set for noon and the action will stream on ESPN+.
