In the bottom of the fourth, West Virginia starting pitcher Hayden Cooper gave up a leadoff walk and a single. The senior followed with a strikeout, but a balk placed the runners in scoring position, setting up senior Kaden Hopson's sacrifice fly to tie the game at two. Junior Juan Correa brought in the go-ahead run on a groundball to short and beat the throw for the 3-2 lead.
West Virginia put two runners in scoring position in the sixth after Ellis Garcia laid down the sacrifice bunt, but Charlotte senior reliever Tony Rossi struck out the next two Mountaineers to end the inning.
In the seventh and with two outs, Skylar King singled to third and freshman Armani Guzman came into the game for Cox and immediately stole second to get into scoring position but the Mountaineers could not push him across as the 49ers took game three of the series 3-2.
