West Virginia set to Take on Marshall in Charleston

The No. 19 West Virginia Mountaineers (21-7) will travel to Charleston to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd (13-12) Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park with the first pitch set for six o'clock.
West Virginia took the first meeting versus Marshall in Morgantown 9-7. Junior Landon Wallace led the Mountaineers, going 2-3 with a base clearing triple while sophomore J.J. Wetherholt collected three of his NCAA-leading 54 hits this season.
Wetherholt is making an early case for Big 12 Conference Player of the Year, leading the league in batting average (.462), runs (36), and stolen bases (24) and ranks second in doubles (14) and third in slugging percentage (.778) and on base percentage (.525).

He became the first Mountaineer to hit for the cycle since 2014 and completed the feat against Kansas State in game one of the Mountaineers conference road opener last Friday and hit his sixth home run of the season on Sunday in the series finale to help lift WVU over K-State and grab the series becoming the first Big 12 member to capture a conference road series this season.
Gavin Van Kempen will get the start for the Mountaineers against Marshall. The freshman right-hander is currently 1-0 with a 5.27 ERA and 13 strikeouts in 4 appearances this season.
Marshall will counter with senior Chad Heiner. The righty is 1-1 on the season with the loss coming last week in Morgantown where he pitched two inning and gave up four runs on five hits.
Gio Ferraro leads Marshall with a .333 batting average and four home runs while Owen Ayers also has four home runs and a team-high 21 RBIs.
West Virginia is 53-25 all-time versus Marshall and the Mountaineers have won the last five meetings against the Herd.
