West Virginia has won seven of their last eight outings and have emerged into the national spotlight after taking a series at Oklahoma State followed with the program's first series sweep over the TCU Horned Frogs and wins over Pitt and Penn State in the midweek matchups.

The Mountaineers have moved up to 19th in the RPI and according to D1baseball.com's latest 'Field of 64 Projections,' West Virginia is slated as one of the Top 16 host teams and are pinned against Central Michigan in game one with Kentucky or Virginia Tech would be up next on the docket.

The potential matchup between WVU and Central Michigan would be the first meeting between the two programs while Kentucky holds a 2-11 advantage over the Mountaineers and Virginia Tech controls the series over WVU 36-52.

The Mountaineers have four conference series remaining on the schedule starting with a road trip at Baylor this upcoming weekend followed by consecutive home stands versus Oklahoma and Texas before the season series at Texas. West Virginia will also have a home and road game versus Pitt for the midweek contests.

West Virginia's last postseason appearance came in 2019 as a host team, the first WVU squad to host an NCAA tournament since 1955.

In 2017, head coach Randy Mazey guided the program to its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 1996.
