West Virginia Takes the First Game of the Doubleheader vs. Charlotte

Charlotte - West Virginia sophomore Logan Suave went 4-4 with two home runs a raked in five RBIs to lead the Mountaineers (4-2) to an 8-1 victory over the Charlotte 49ers (2-4) Saturday afternoon in seven innings.
West Virginia sophomore Logan Suave put the Mountaineers on the board in the first with a solo home run over centerfield.
Tyler Switalski loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first but got out of the jam with a strikeout and a routine groundball over to short. The junior was in the same situation in the fourth after giving up a solo home run to junior Rene Lastres but a multi-RBI saving grab by first baseman Grant Hussey and a pop out a third ended the inning. Switalski recorded five strikeouts in 4.2 innings
Junior Grant Hussey smacked a sky-high leadoff home run in the second to get the Mountaineers started. Then, with two outs, Spencer Barnett worked a full count walk, Skylar King received a four-pitch walk before Sauve ripped an RBI single.
Charlotte senior Andrew Spolyar entered the game in place for Cole Reynolds. Spolyar walked two consecutive Mountaineer batters to bring in another run as West Virginia jumped out to a 4-0 lead.
Logan Sauve hit his second home run in the fourth with two outs as the Mountaineers continued to control the game with a 5-0 lead.
Andrew Spolyar walked to Mountaineers to begin the sixth before Sauve hit the wall in the left-centerfield for a two-RBI double and Sam White followed with a double down the right field line but was thrown out at third trying to stretch it out to triple.
Sophomore David Hagaman came in relief in the fifth with two on and two out and kept the 49ers off the board and sophomore Cole Fehrman took the mound in the seventh and ended the inning with his second strikeout of the afternoon as the Mountaineers grabbed game two of the four game series with a 8-1 decision.
