West Virginia Travels to Penn State for a Midweek Matchup

State College, PA – The West Virginia Mountaineers (23-9) are on the road to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions (17-11) Tuesday evening with the first pitch set for 6:00 and streaming on Big 10 Plus.
West Virginia is coming off a conference home opening series loss to the Kansas Jayhawks. The Mountaineers were able to avoid the sweep with a dominating 12-3 decision on Sunday with a stellar performance from freshman starting pitcher Robby Porco, who finished the afternoon with 12 strikeouts to earn Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.
J.J. Wetherholt leads the NCAA with 60 hits and is third in the country in stolen bases with 26. The sophomore second baseman also leads the Big 12 Conference in batting average (.448), OPS (1.250) and runs (42) and ranks second in the league in slugging percentage (.731), on base percentage (.519) and doubles (15).
Senior Caleb McNeely is on an eight-game hitting streak and has hit five doubles, a triple and four home runs during the span and junior Landon Wallace went 7-for-15 (.467) with three home runs, two doubles, five RBI, and eight runs scored versus Kansas last weekend.
Sophomore right-hander Grant Siegal (2-2, 7.09) will get the start for the Mountaineers while Penn State will counter with right-handed redshirt freshman Ben DeMell (0-0, 8.50 ERA).
Penn State swept a six-win Delaware State program over the weekend after dropping six of the eight previous games.
Senior Thomas Bramley leads Penn State with a .327 average while junior Kyle Hannon has a team-high six home runs and 20 stolen bases.
Redshirt-freshman will get the start and is 0-0 with 14 strikeouts in 16.1 innings pitched. Steven Miller has been PSU's main reliever and has a 3.41 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 29.0 innings.
Penn State leads the all-time series 71-44. The two split the season series last season with the visiting teams grabbing the win. It was the first meeting between the two programs since 2018.
