Wetherholt Earns Big 12 Baseball Player of the Year

On Tuesday, the Big 12 Conference announced West Virginia sophomore J.J. Wetherholt as the 2023 Big 12 Conference Baseball Player of the Year, becoming the first Mountaineer to hold the honor.
Wetherholt, a three-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Week honoree, ended regular season ranked second in the country in batting average, hitting .447 while also leading the Big 12 Conference in slugging percentage (.786), OPS (1.296), runs (65), hits (92) and stolen bases (35). Additionally, he ranked second in the league with 21 doubles and on base percentage at .510.
The Mars, PA native had 30 multi-hit games this season, he clubbed a team-high 15 home runs and led the Mountaineers with 56 RBIs.
