What Randy Mazey Said Following the Game One Win Over Charlotte

The West Virginia Mountaineers (3-2) took game one from the Charlotte 49ers (2-3) Friday night 12-8.
Head coach Randy Mazey met with the media following the game and provided his thoughts on the win.
It's good to win the game, but we really didn't need to use (sophomore reliever) Maxx (Yehl) as much as we did. When you're up 11-2, you’d like to save the best for the rest of the weekend. So, Max is probably spent now for the weekend. It just goes to show you, 11-2, games are never over. You can just get just sit back and think it's over when you're up by nine. College baseball, any crazy thing can happen. Good thing we got the out at third base there in the eighth or that would have been a little bit of a different game.
Junior starting pitcher Aidan Major's 9 strikeouts in five innings and collecting the win
I thought he was really good. These guys (Charlotte) play with a lot of confidence in this park. You can tell as soon as they get a little bit of rally going, they catch a lot of life. He did a really good job make some really big pitches with men on base when he had to. That was a good day for Major.
Producing 12 runs on 14 hits
Last weekend we didn't swing it great, and we never swing it great opening weekend, being a northern program, that’s just what you do. So, it's nice to settle in and see some guys have some great games. Huss (junior first baseman Grant Hussey) had a great game and (sophomore centerfielder) Skylar King had a great game, so without (sophomore shortstop) JJ (Wetherholt) in the lineup, we’re going to have to have other guys do that.
