WVU Bats go Cold, Winning Streak Ends

Morgantown, WV - After breaking into the top 25, the West Virginia Mountaineers (15-5) fell to the Hofstra Pride (6-13) 4-2 Tuesday night and ended a nine-game WVU winning streak.
Braden Barry extended his hitting streak to 10 after a leadoff double in the bottom of the first, took third on a wild pitch and J.J. Wetherholt brought him home with a single to centerfield. Then, Dayne Leonard delivered a sacrifice groundball to score Weatherholt.
Hofstra cut the deficit in half in the third when Michael Florides hit an infield single and an errant throw placed him at second before Dylan Palmer squeezed a single through the left side, scoring Florides.
The Pride tied the game in the fourth with a pair of doubles. It was Ryan Morash with a leadoff double to left centerfield and Brian Morrell smacked an RBI double to right centerfield to knot the game at two.
West Virginia starting Aidan Major got into trouble in the sixth and errant throws paved the way for a two-running inning for Hofstra.
Carlson Reed came in relief for the Mountaineers in the seventh after Noah Short gave up two hits but did record an out before Reed held the Pride hitless.
West Virginia loaded the bases in the ninth but came away empty handed as the Pride shocked the Mountaineers with a 4-2 decision.
