Brown 'Doesn't Have An Answer' for When QB1 Will Be Named

In this story:
There are several starting spots up for grabs, but the one position battle every WVU fan has their eyes on is the most important one - quarterback.
Garrett Greene feels like the favorite in the race due to the experience he gained at the end of the season in 2022 starting a pair of games and leading West Virginia to a win over Oklahoma, but don't count out Nicco Marchiol.
We could see some separation on Saturday when the team holds its first scrimmage. However, revealing a starter may not happen until later in the month, perhaps not until the week of the Penn State game.
Earlier this week, Brown provided some analysis of the battle and really went in-depth on Marchiol, who has showed some encouraging things in camp.
"Nicco is making growth as a redshirt freshman. Yesterday about halfway through practice was probably as poor decision making as he's made and then he was able to correct it, which I think is a sign of mental toughness. He went a stretch there where he made bad decisions and then four out of six plays were explosive plays. So to see him take an a** chewing and being able to bounce back and answer, I was really encouraged with that. We did a lot of red zone work today and it was a little bit of ebb and flow with him, but he made two really big-time plays. We got to clean up some of those decisions, but encouraged with how he handled adversity.
"Garrett had a couple big runs today. And then he made really a tight throw down in the red zone. So we'll continue to rotate those guys and when we'll name a starter, I don't really have an answer for you.
"The thing I like about both those guys is very even-keeled. Garrett as a younger player and maybe even in the spring to a lesser extent, he's got great energy and his juice level is extremely high and what happened previously when he was a younger player is he had really highs and really lows. If you're a guy that has a bounce to you and you're up every day, your lows are really magnified."
