Difference in the offense

"I think the biggest difference that you will see is the fact that we've got two mobile quarterbacks. We haven't had that since we've been here. We can do some different things in the run game with the zone reads, taking advantage of their mobility which will be able to create more space for us in the run game. And then also with the running backs that we've got in this offense, being able to see those guys on the field at the same time."

Adjusting to being the offensive coordinator

"It is a big adjustment. I'm used to having tunnel vision with those running backs. It's just being able to see the whole picture and see what's going on. I'm loving the leadership opportunity. I feel like one of my best abilities is to be able to connect with the guys and bring out the best in them. We've done a phenomenal job this offseason establishing a chemistry and creating a bond with everybody and that was evident today."

What to watch in the QB competition

"Well, you just have to rely on the expertise of Coach Brown and Coach Reagan for the decision on that deal. Those guys are continuing to compete throughout the spring. Obviously, decision-making is going to be critical. We did a phenomenal job of that today, taking care of the football. That's going to be one of the biggest deals. Unless one just clearly supersedes the next one, they'll continue to compete throughout spring and into the fall."

Coordinating the offense

"Calling plays is a big deal but one of the most important parts of it is just the organization of it. Just all the ideas put forward to actually put in a script to actually run the plays. So the organization behind it and all the ideas put forth to actually put the plan together to run the plays has been the biggest adjustment thus far."

Thoughts on WR transfer Devin Carter

"He made some big plays on third down situations today. He was huge for us. Obviously, we work some situations when we go team period and we had two situations which were third down and he made two outstanding contested catches in crucial situations. So, we're really excited about his ability to stretch the field vertically for us and go up and make some big plays down the field."

Thoughts on freshman RB Jahiem White

"He's fast. It's fast for him. He's very talented. He made some plays. He's like coach, this thing moves fast' but yeah, you're fast too. He's very talented. He's just got to learn how to practice. When I talk about learning how to practice, he's got to finish with game-like behavior. He catches the ball really well. He's special with the ball in his hands. He's just got to learn how to practice. But it's first day. The biggest thing is I just like the way he went out there and played. He was confident. Whether it was the right play or not, he did it with confidence and that was really good to see."

If there's a plan in place for Rodney Gallagher once he arrives

"They're ain't no doubt. Can't ever have enough playmakers, that's for certain. We do have a plan for Rodney Gallagher when he gets here. Rodney will get a chance to come around sometime this spring to see some things. We're excited to get him here. In the summertime, we'll get an opportunity to work with guys so we'll make sure we get him caught up to speed."
