Darius Stills Named Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year

West Virginia defensive lineman Darius Stills continues to rack up preseason accolades after the Big 12 Conference released its preseason individual awards featuring Stills as the 2020 Big 12 Preseason Defensive player of the year along with receiving 2020 Preseason, All-Big 12 Football Team Honors.

This marks the third individual Big 12 preseason award a Mountaineer has received since joining the conference in 2012. Geno Smith (2012) and Will Grier (2018) received Preseason Offensive Player of the Year awards.

Stills has also been named to the Preseason Chuck Bednarik Award Watchlist Lott Award Watchlist, along with being named to Athlon Sports’, Lindy’s, and Phil Steele’s 2020 All-Big 12 Conference First Teams.

Stills is looking to build upon a season where the Fairmont, WV native racked up 47 tackles, a team-leading 14.5 tackles for loss, seven sacks, which tied for the team lead with his brother Dante (second in the Big 12 Conference), five quarterback hurries, a forced fumble, two pass breakups, and a blocked field goal earning 2019 first-team All-Big 12 honors.

Oklahoma State running back Chuba Hubbard was chosen as the Big 12's Offensive Player of the Year and Oklahoma quarterback and redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler received Newcomer of the Year honors.

Stills was the only Mountaineer named to the All-Big 12 Football Team.
