Fan Reactions From West Virginia's Loss to Pitt

West Virginia fell to Pitt in the 2022 season opener 38-31. Following the game, Mountaineer fans voiced their displeasure on Twitter.
Tough loss to a good team, everyone made mistakes top to bottom, but it feels like for the first time in a good while we can be a good team.

Neal Brown sucks ! That is all

We need a coach that's not timid. NB is very timid.

Too many mistakes. Feels like wvu lost that one more than Pitt winning it. Way to many mistakes.

Horrible announcer. Louis Riddick is god awful. Their RT literally tackled defenders all game lol.
Watching a Pitt loss provided more entertainment than any B12 win we’ve had aside from Texas 2018. That alone tells the story of how dry the B12 is for us

Sad

Super unlucky way to lose a game. Can’t be too upset about the overall performance but it definitely stings. Still some question marks going into the next couple of games. CJ Donaldson is legit - hope he gets more touches.
— josh (@joblaaaah) September 2, 2022
Why didn't they just pound Donaldson? Rich Rod would've jammed him down their throat, run him to they stop him! & they didn't!

This team is different, I can see Excitement back in Morgantown, and this is why we wanted to see Doege gone. The defense played well except for the big plays that they gave up, Daniels is legit, We are going to win a lot of games but the big play and that drop pick six, done

NB deserves to be skewered for his 4th and 1. Not much else to say.

Same look different year. Neal Brown teams gonna Neal Brown. A lot of people are over it with him. He can’t win a any game of magnitude and his teams keep committing the same screw ups game after game. New OC but you could smell Neal’s carcass all over it.

Receivers gotta catch the ball and also not fumble it. But it’s not all there fault… damn
— sandlotLove (@CrashOveride22) September 2, 2022
A lot of mental mistakes line still having trouble holding up though could b the plays aren’t forcing defensives to back up shoulda beat PITT

WVU played awesome. So many standouts. However, I’m losing confidence in Coach Brown. Not going for 4th and 1 was a big mistake, with Donaldson right there and one yard to pick up? We could have gotten points. Momentum was on our side!

Ultra conservative play calls, all the time. By the way Brown wears 2 seatbelts in his car for safety, to avoid any unnecessary risk…
— WVMountieFan (@cslam2003) September 2, 2022
O-line coach should have been gone a couple years ago. But his Brown’s buddy and coached with him every year
— Mike Annon (@annonmike) September 2, 2022
There were some really good things and some tough breaks but definitely things to build on. Neal Brown need to play to win though and stop trying to play not to lose.
— Josh Roberts (@robertsjw3) September 2, 2022
You don’t punt the ball to play to win total BS
— Calvin Damron (@calvindamron) September 2, 2022
Poor coaching decisions down the stretch, bad breaks with calls, and 1 mistake put us in the never ending WVU Sports-fan spiral.

2 big plays On defense the helmet to helmet penalty. Gave them a 1st down and momentum that led to a TD . On offense the dropped pass by Ford Wheaton gave them a TD
— Jim Thomaselli (@JimThomaselli) September 2, 2022
Conservative play was the killer. The drop sealed the deal but no way you don’t let Donaldson try for a yard after getting 10+ a carry all game
— kckbck (@jpetey_) September 2, 2022
The 3rd and 1 & 4th and 1 before Pitt tied it was where the game is lost. Can’t take your foot off the gas, and if you can’t get 2 yards in one play you don’t deserve to win anyways. That said, excited about JT and curious to see how the year pans out.
— Lyan Rafferty (@LyanRafferty) September 2, 2022
Brown shouldn’t be there next year. The offensive line coach shouldn’t be there tomorrow.

Losing sucks. But lots of positives to take away from this game. It’s a long season and I’m confident that we’re going to have a great season.
— Ernie Morris (@ernmorris) September 2, 2022
I think there is bright spots for the team, but I don't think it will change anything as normal. I am predicting quite a few L's on the record this season.
— Tom Q (@TomQ919) September 2, 2022
A lotttt of drops on catchable balls. BFW was the toughest for sure but lot of drives killed and big plays negated from balls that should have been caught 🤷🏻♂️ BFW also had two great TD catches so a big bummer on that drop/pick six 😬

Quick takes:
— WVU Fan | Fire Neal Brown (@WVUFan2017) September 2, 2022
- Too many drops (including the infamous one)
- The O-line is still pretty bad
- JT Daniels is the man. Tough as hell too
- What is #12’s name!?!?!
The 4th and inches call was fine. I woulda went for it but whatever.
No guts Neal Brown.. coulda put it away twice. No excuse not going for that in a rivalry with all the momentum. Once he wanted the whole state knew we blew it. Smh. Also the wrs and ol do not look improved, but if you give the ball to Donaldson on 4th and an inch you win. Period.
