Jarret Doege Makes Surprising Appearance at WVU Pro Day

In this story:
Earlier this week, WVU held its annual Pro Day and a familiar, yet unexpected face popped up - former WVU quarterback, Jarret Doege.
"I just called Coach Mike [Joseph], Patrick [Johnston], and Coach [Neal] Brown and they allowed me to come up here and I'm grateful that they did," Doege said. "It was good to be back. It was good to throw to Bryce [Ford-Wheaton] and Sam [James] again. I've put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this place and like I said, I'm just grateful I got to do this Pro Day."
In two-plus years as the starting quarterback for the Mountaineers, Doege compiled a 14-12 record while throwing for 6,453 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions.
Following the 2021 season, Doege met with head coach Neal Brown and opted to enter the transfer portal for his final year of eligibility. Doege initially set out to play for Western Kentucky, but after the Hilltoppers chose to go with Austin Reed as their starter midway through fall camp, Doege hit the portal again and ended up at Troy. In seven games this past season, Doege threw for 575 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.
Sure, Doege could get a chance at the next level but if we're being realistic, he may have a better shot at the XFL, CFL, USFL, or a league of that sort than he would with the NFL. It's a QB-rich draft class and there aren't many teams, if any, where Doege would be able to come in and compete for a roster spot. He knows his playing days won't last forever but he still believes he deserves an opportunity before he moves on to the next chapter of his life, coaching.
"I've been through a lot of adversity in my career. I've been through a lot. But at the end of the day, I can look back and I've thrown for 11,000 yards, started 48 games, and 84 touchdowns. You can say that's a pretty good career. I'm not done playing football right now. I'm going to continue to play as long as I can and then jumping into coaching when it's time."
When asked how much he kept up with the Mountaineers this past season, Doege stated, "Evey game. This place is very important to me and I'll always follow West Virginia each and every season."
