MAILBAG: Recruiting Predictions, Eilert's Chance, WR Targets + More

From @Michiganeer:

Q: When will you give updates on your recruit commit predictions?

A: Good question. I've been debating it in regards to transfers. There are a lot of moving parts and I could have 100% confidence in a pick because of what I was told but then things change. I'll consider it. We will continue to do it for high schoolers. I'll give one out right here - running back Traevon Dunbar to WVU.

From @MikeCoulter12:

Q: How big a difference will it make that WVU’s excited to be in this game and UNC is not at all and will likely look very disinterested?

A: It's a great point. However, with Drake Maye and other starters sitting out for the NFL or leaving for the portal, it's opening up opportunities for others to step up and show they belong. They can use this as an audition for next year, so I think the young kids will be excited to play. If the others were playing, that's where the interest level really comes into question.

From @Simmountaineer:

Q: Why did Kobe Johnson not get on the court more tonight?

A: Kerr was on fire and needed to be on the floor to give WVU a chance. I think you'll see tweaks to the lineup/rotation as we get deeper into the season and Kobe will go back to more of his off-ball responsibilities.

From @mfarleyjr:

Q: What happens first? WBB and Coach Kellogg loses a game or Dawn P announces her departure and thanks her players and the university on social media? By all appearances WVU won that one, eh?

A: Haha. Yes, I think Kellogg is turning out to be a great hire. Plitzuweit is a good coach too and although she could have left on better terms, at least it was a one and done and not a long-term coach that did it.

From @MikeontheMic79:

Q: While I am rooting for HC, he simply seems lost. I don't see any confident decisions or fire. Doesn't help that half of his staff is so inexperienced. Likely 1 and done for this group.

A: It's a staff that has had to deal with so much adversity. Ten game in and they've yet to have their full compliment of pieces. I think it's fair to criticize but they've been dealt a really tough hand.

From @wvufan2023:

Q: In your opinion, do you think Eilert gets another shot at this next year or do you think Wren will say that it’s time to look for someone else? If you say the 2nd option, who do you think Wren will go after?

A: If they make a run, sure. But I really think Baker will go through a national search and hire a coach with head coaching experience. As far as candidates, it's a little too early to tell to be honest. He's got some names on his desk but I don't believe he's really dove deep into it yet, if at all. He'll be fair to Josh and let this play out.

From @mpscxh752g:

Q: Do you think if we get Ric’Darious Farmer/Isaiah Neyor we back off of the other?

A: Not necessarily. Neyor's knee injury from two years ago is a big concern. He played extremely limited snaps this year, so you don't really know what you're getting there. They are pursuing Farmer hard regardless.

From @Mountiealum97:

Q: Why can’t we rebound?!?!? Too much ball watching. Is this lack of coaching or not boxing out?? I like this staff but this won’t cut it in Big 12 play.

A: Not enough size. Outside of Jesse Edwards, this is a really small team. That said, there have been small teams that rebound it well before. I think it's just the personnel, really. They had to recruit the best players out of the portal late and didn't really have the opportunity to land the guys they wanted.

From @LoyaltyIce:

Q: Do you think there's still a path to a March Madness run?

A: I do - only because there's an 18-game Big 12 schedule still to be played. It's a tough league, but if they can be competitive and snatch a few ranked wins, they'll work their way onto the bubble. Do I see it happening? Not necessarily.
