Massey Explains Decision to Transfer to WVU, Projected Role, & a Message to the Fans

In this story:
It's not all that often that you see a player make the jump from Division II to Power Five football but West Virginia loved what it saw in Angelo State wide receiver Noah Massey and wasted no time getting him on campus, ultimately leading to his commitment.
Massey began his career at Bowling Green, where he spent three seasons but didn't receive many opportunities on offense. Going down to Angelo State (San Angelo, TX) allowed Massey to hit the reset button and he took full advantage of that by hauling in 81 receptions for 1,083 yards and nine touchdowns. Now, he's one strong season at WVU away from putting himself on the NFL's radar.
Shortly after revealing his decision to the public, Massey told Mountaineers Now why West Virginia was the place for him and what fans can expect out of him in 2023.
"I feel at home with the coaching staff. I feel Coach [Neal] Brown and Coach Bilal [Marshall] will develop me into a more complete player and are giving me an opportunity to come in and compete for a starting job. With the proven development in their program and the schedule this year, I have a chance to improve my draft stock.
"My message to the WVU family is that they’re getting a hard worker, a great teammate, and someone who is going to uphold the standard of the legends before me. Someone who is coming to help push WVU to the successful heights we’re used to being at. I’m a reliable receiver that will move the chains, make contested catches, and be a safety blanket for our QB. I’m physical in the run game and I have an immense catch radius. WVU has blessed me with an opportunity and y’all will get every last drop of effort I have to help make this team successful."
With NC State transfer Devin Carter set to line up at the X and Cortez Braham at the Y, Massey will see much of his work come from the slot, serving almost as a tight end split out.
"I can control the middle of the field and help our outside guys get their 1-on-1 matchups. They can move me around outside also to win against smaller corners but I’ll be primarily playing slot and whenever coach calls for it I’ll move outside or go in motion. Coaches let me know that as long as I come in, do the work, get the playbook down, compete every day, and prove everything on film is the real deal, I will have an immense role in this offense and will be out there with the 1s when we roll into Happy Valley."
Massey has one year of eligibility remaining.
