Where does West Virginia look to get better?

The transfer portal window has re-opened and over the next few days, we will see a ton of movement, perhaps even some at WVU. It's no secret that the Mountaineers will add a few more pieces to the roster ahead of fall camp via the portal, but what will that look like?

Here are the top four positions I expect WVU to pursue the most.

1. Wide Receiver

Jeremiah Aaron and Cortez Braham need to make a big jump this season and they're certainly capable of doing so. But there are no guarantees that both will do so, meaning the offense could have to lean heavily on Devin Carter in the passing game. Neal Brown has to go out and get another reliable playmaker to not only provide competition but establish depth at the position. Sure, it would be nice to grab a guy that has multiple years of eligibility left, but I think getting an experienced receiver with a proven past is the way to go here for what will be a first-year starting quarterback.

2. Defensive Lineman

Jordan Lesley's unit is losing a ton of pass rush from last season. Taijh Alston, Dante Stills, and Jordan Jefferson are gone. Sean Martin will be the new leader of the group up front and Tennessee State transfer Davoan "DayDay" Hawkins will bring an immediate impact as well. But in my opinion, they need more from the interior.

3. Defensive Back

West Virginia landed Minnesota transfer Beanie Bishop and Buffalo transfer Keyshawn Cobb, but they're still in pursuit of a handful of other defensive backs, and rightfully so. The back end of the defense was atrocious a year ago and they can't rely on those youngsters to figure it out in one offseason.

4. Linebacker

With the unfortunate injury to Josiah Trotter, West Virginia is a man short at linebacker. He wasn't expected to play a major role on defense but he was going to be a factor on special teams and rotate in at MIKE. The Mountaineers spent much of spring ball cross-training the backers so that they can play multiple spots but I think even with a healthy Trotter, adding another body in the room would have been beneficial.
