SOURCE: WVU Co-DC Jahmile Addae Leaves for SEC Job

WVU will be looking to fill at least one coaching spot this offseason.

After spending two years as a member of the West Virginia coaching staff and one year as the co-defensive coordinator, Jahmile Addae will be leaving to coach defensive backs at Georgia, Mountaineer Maven has confirmed. As first reported by The Athletic's Bruce Feldman.

Sources close to Mountaineer Maven stated, "Addae interviewed for the job earlier in the week and felt like it was a great opportunity that he couldn't pass on."

This past summer Addae and defensive line coach Jordan Lesley were named co-defensive coordinators following the news of Vic Koenning and WVU parting ways due to allegations of player mistreatment. Many folks questioned if having two coordinators would work but West Virginia ended up having one of the best defensive units in the entire country. The Mountaineers allowed 291.4 yards of total offense per game which ranks 4th nationally and No. 1 among all Power Five schools. On top of that, West Virginia finished the 2020 season No. 1 in pass defense allowing just 159.6 yards per game through the air.

True sophomore SPEAR Tykee Smith played a major role in the defense's success and was named AP Third Team All-American, FWAA Second Team All-American, and was also named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award which is given to the nation's top defensive back.

With Addae off to Georgia, it could open the door for Jordan Lesley to become the full-time DC.
