In honor of it being the 4th of July, I thought it would be a great time to discuss which three Mountaineers will put on the best shows this upcoming season. Below are three players that I believe will produce the most fireworks in 2023.

QB Garrett Greene

He hasn't won the starting job just yet but I'd be willing to bet it's his job to lose. He led WVU to its first win over Oklahoma since joining the Big 12 and threw three touchdowns against Kansas State. Greene followed that up with a strong spring and to me, looked like the clear starter.

His ability to keep plays alive with his legs and make plays happen off script will offer a whole new element to this offense.

RB CJ Donaldson

If he had remained healthy for the entire season, Donaldson would have been well on his way to setting some freshman program records. He rushed for 526 yards and eight touchdowns on 87 carries in what was his first year ever playing the running back position.

Now that he has tape to learn from and has a full offseason in the RB room, he should emerge as one of the best three or four backs in the entire Big 12 Conference.

DE Sean Martin

Dante Stills is gone. Taijh Alston is gone. Jordan Jefferson is gone. Someone along that defensive line is going to have to step up and get after the quarterback and I fully expect that to be Sean Martin.

The Bluefield native worked his way into a starting role a year ago and recorded eight tackles for loss and four sacks to go along with 34 total tackles. It's not unreasonable to think that he can double up on some of those numbers or at least finish in the ballpark of it with roughly 12 tackles for loss and seven-ish sacks.
